5 Christmas Films For The Festive Season

With Christmas szn now officially in full swing, there’s only thing that calls for it – a festive film countdown!

Best get moving, there’s only 2 more weekends left before the big day – which means a Christmas movie screening (or two, or three) with your pals is in order.

Time to gather all the snacks, buy a new pair of Christmas pjs and light your fave Winter candle!

1. The Holiday (2006)

Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet & Jude Law – name a more iconic trio. I’ll wait.

No but seriously, is there really anything better than a cosy night in, snuggled up in your Xmas onesie and sitting down with a big cup of hot chocolate to watch The Holiday?!

This film is the perfect balance of festive & rom-com, making it a great one to ease you into the early Christmas period – because it’s still giving ‘Christmas’ – but in the most subtle way.

2. Love Actually (2003)

Another firm film favourite this Christmas season is Love Actually.

If you’ve not already seen the opening scene of this film (or heard the voiceover going viral on TikTok), then you’re probably missing out on one of the best Christmas film scenes of this generation. *Pause for effect*

Love Actually features a star-studded cast, Colin Firth, Kiera Knightley, Hugh Grant, to name a few.

Plus it’s got the dreamiest soundtrack that we know you’ll be playing all Christmas long (Nora Jones ‘Turn Me On’, for all that don’t know, get to know)!

Because if you can’t watch Love Actually at Christmas, when can you, eh?

3. Elf (2003)

Next up is another cult Christmas classic, Elf.

Has anyone actually ever tried to recreate the spaghetti bol that Buddy makes in keeping with the 4 main elf food groups – candy, candy canes, candy corn and SYRUP?

Because for some reason the thought of pasta in a syrup and fudge sauce sounds both horrific and intriguing at the same time.

Someone take one for the team and get back to us on this please!

4. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)

What sort of Christmas film countdown would this be without an old-time classic.

While A Christmas Carol & White Christmas are both great contenders, It’s A Wonderful Life is that classic for me!

There’s something really wholesome about watching a black and white film around Christmas time, especially when you’re surrounded by the twinkling lights of your Xmas tree and a mince pie lurking somewhere nearby…

If you’re not a big fan of old-time movies, I dare you to give this one a watch this Christmas – and if you haven’t cried once by the end, then sorry to say you really are a bit of a Grinch!

5. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (2000)

Speaking of things which are hairy and green, The Grinch HAS to be on your watch-list this festive period.

I don’t know if it was just me, but I used to find Jim Carey’s character terrifying as a child. 25 years on, I now relate to his IDGAF attitude in more ways than one.

Whatever your thoughts on the Grinch, you can’t deny that some of the one liners in this film will have you cackling all Christmas long.

Our personal fave – “Stupid. Ugly. Out of Date. If I can’t find something nice to wear, I’M NOT GOING!”.

We’ve all been there.

Which of these 5 Christmas classics will you be watching this festive period?
