Is Your Partner A Narcissist?
Does your partner have a high opinion of their self-image? Think they know how to do everything and better than anyone else? Can’t handle criticism?
Sounds like all our exes tbf.
These are just some of the signs you might be dating a narcissist. Like we don’t have enough to deal with already.
Look out for the below warning signs to see if you’ve bagged a Kanye level narcissist.
Is Your Partner A Narcissist?
#1. Superiority Sally
One of the most common signs of narcissism is someone who believes they are better than everyone else.
They want to do everything their way which is obviously the right way.
They think they deserve your praise, your sympathy, your concern and anything else they imagine up.
The sense of entitlement and superiority is sky high and will inevitably chip away at your confidence.
These huns need to get over themselves.
2. Blame Game
A narcissist’s self-inflated image of themselves will make them believe they are never in the wrong.
Therefore everything must be your fault.
They want to be in control but they rarely want to be responsible for the results.
And sadly they take it out on you as you’re the person most emotionally close to them.
Your loyalty, attachment and love make them feel safe. This reassurance allows them to continue to behave in this way as you’re unlikely to leave them or reject them.
#3. Blurry Boundaries
They struggle to understand boundaries and being told no.
They will manipulate and persist until they feel like they’ve won.
They don’t understand why everyone wouldn’t want the same things they do.
#4. Fake Love
Narcissists struggle to really connect emotionally or love someone other than themselves.
They see the world from their perspective and when one relationship no longer satisfies them they move on to another.
They expect partners to be attuned to their needs and pain but rarely recognise the same needs in their partner.
That’s not to say they can’t be needy – it’s just on their terms.
#5. High Standards
They will set unachievable high standards for you which you’re very unlikely to meet.
Even if you did, the goal post would move and the game would start again.
This could be about your looks or your intelligence or a mixture and it’s hurtful, to say the least.
You don’t need anyone bringing you down for being yourself.
What To Do
Recognise the pattern of behaviour and which areas they display the most.
Acknowledge their good qualities. Do the good parts outweigh the bad?
Have realistic expectations of how much they would be able to change and what they can do to make the relationship better.
Communicate with them in a way they will understand. This type of person requires ego massaging but if it’s draining you it’s not going to work.
Ultimately you need to consider if they bring a positive experience to your life and decide if you should continue the relationship.
