How To Get A Lit Insta Feed

28 | 04 | 2017

Our love for the ‘gram is outta control. Many an hour at PLTHQ is spent scrolling and soaking up major inspo from babes all over the world. They’re not just pretty faces though, these gals have insane feeds and we’ve been takin’ notes. Prepare to be schooled on how to get the most LIT Insta feed, with a lil’ help from some of our fave Insta-babes.

1 – Scout out locations. Think grafitti walls, cool buildings etc. Beauty bae Holly Boon came to see us recently and got this snap in front of the famous fur wall. We know what you’re thinking and yep, it’s as soft as it looks.

2 – Seasoned selfie queens will already know this one. Take loads of pictures from different angles, and we mean LOADS. You need to have a range of fire selfies to choose from. Although if you look anything like cutie Cheynie, we’re pretty sure angles and lighting don’t matter. What a beauty.

3 – Werk that lighting. If you’re shooting outside, try shooting during the golden hour for warm tones and the blue hour for cooler tones. We get it, you’ve got a theme to keep. Make like Imogen and desaturate your images, adding blue coloured filters for cooler hues.

4 – Use leading lines. We know, you’re thinking WTF are leading lines? Girl, we got you. They’re lines that naturally occur in a photo, which draw your eye to a certain focal point. For example, the angles of a building or a flight of stairs. Take note from Northern beauty Megan Ellaby, positioning herself as the focal point in this badass street shot.

5 – If you’re out for food and are plannin’ on grammin’, sit by the window*. For inspo, look no further than brunchin’ bae Sophie Milner. Ugh, can lunchtime hurry up please?

*If you’re eating when it’s dark, this is where your BFF/bae comes in. Get them to use their phone torch to illuminate the shot. People will stare, but do it anyway for the ‘gram.

6 – Choose a theme and stick to it. This could be in the form of cool/warm tones, or your fave colour (pink anyone!?) Creative babe Heather centers her feed theme around her outta this world hair, with pops of blue throughout her whole feed. We dig it. And is that a new purple ‘do we see on the feed? Hairspo for DAYS.

7 – Master the flat lay. The best surfaces are plain or neutral, and we LOVE a marble effect – perfected by Kate La Vie who is the Actual Queen of Flatlays. And we don’t give out that title lightly.
