7 Tips On How To De-Stress

13 | 06 | 2017

No matter how many succulents and inspirational life quotes you find yourself dotting around your desk/home/whole life, releasing stress and staying chill ain’t always all that easy. From mild stress episodes right through to full-blown stress-induced rages, we’ve all been there.

If it’s 7 refreshing tips on how to de-stress you’re after, firstly what a coincidence(!), and secondly this post is for you.

How To De-Stress

#1 – “Fake” a smile

Ever heard of the phrase ‘fake it ’til you make it’? Well, turns out it’s actually SCIENCE. Who knew? Scientists, probably. But yep, it’s been proven that plastering a smile across your face (even when you’d rather be screaming) releases endorphins, which can help de-stress you and improve happiness levels. It’s a no-brainer.

#2 – Make use of apps

We know what you’re thinking. Apps? Aren’t they just for online shopping and going heart-eyed over the 20+ sausage dog Instagram accounts you follow? Surprisingly, no. There are loads of useful apps which aim to help you target stress. And don’t worry, they’re FREE. We ain’t about that paying for apps life. Apps like Headspace & Calm allow you to get your zen on whether you’re in the office, the lecture hall or at home. Oh, and a bubble wrap-popping app exists, so there’s that.

#3 – Create a playlist

You know those songs* you can’t help tapping your foot to? Or if you’re anything like the PLTHQ gals, dramatically lip-syncing to? Put them in a playlist. On grey days when you’re too stressed to function and your brain is sending out SOS signals, stick your headphones in, whip out this playlist, and you’re good to go.

*PLTHQ suggestions include: Zara Larsson – Lush Life, Shawn Mendes – There’s Nothin’ Holding Me Back, Spice Girls – Wannabe

#4 – Yoga

There are a ton of reasons yoga is a recommended technique to help you de-stress. You learn helpful breathing techniques, how to relax both your body and mind and release pent-up emotional energy. With Vanessa Hudgens and Alessia Ambrosio on the long list of celebs who advocate yoga, you’re in great company. Plus it’s an excuse to buy some hella cute workout gear, so really we would call this a win/win.

#5 – Ask for help

Never underestimate the power of a chat. Stick the kettle on, facetime your BFF, and between gossiping about boys and discussing which PLT garms you’ll be spending your next payday dolla on, VENT. Just let it all out, and have a rant. Sorry in advance for sounding like your Mum, but a problem shared really is a problem halved.

#6 – Go outside

Is stress getting the better of you? Go outside. Leave your desk/bed/couch and breathe in the fresh air. Take a little walk to get your blood flowing. BTW, it’s totally okay if said walk outside results in going to the shop and accidentally buying three different kinds of chocolate. Girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.

#7 – Sleep

Nope, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. Sleeping counts as stress relief because a well-rested mind can handle situations 100% better than a tired one. We aren’t suggesting you get your head down on the desk for a quick 40 winks when your boss gets too demanding, but we are suggesting you make an effort to get a lil’ more sleep. Think of it as an excuse to buy some cute new pajamas. Sleepy girls unite!
