06 | 05 | 2020

It’s safe to say all this staying indoors and moving much less than we used to (guilty) isn’t doing much for our body and mind right now. That’s why it’s more important than ever to incorporate some home workouts into your everyday life to make up for the lack of venturing too far from the sofa, boost our minds and just generally feel good. If you’re eager to improve your general fitness and tone up but don’t know where to start, these ideas are easy to do from home and short enough for you to easily fit them into your daily working from home schedule.

Get motivated with our round up of the best workouts you can do from the comfort of your own home – no equipment required!

Repeat each of the below three-exercise circuit three times for beginners or four times if you’re more on the intermediate/advanced level. Rest for 60 seconds between each circuit and don’t forget to cool down with three to five minutes of stretching. This is as important as warming up!

Goblet squat: 15 reps

Plank with shoulder tap: 20 taps total

Jumping jack cardio: 45 to 60 seconds

Rest: one minute

Alternating back lunge with knee drive: 10 reps each leg

Crab walk: 20 total “steps”

Knees and toes: 45 to 60 seconds

Rest: one minute

Single-leg bridge: 10 reps each leg

Bicycle crunch: 20 reps total

Twisted butt kicker: 45 to 60 seconds

Rest: one minute

One of the easiest workouts you can incorporate into your lockdown exercise schedule and start today, why not turn your daily stroll of the day into a run. This is a great way to boost your mood and energy levels. Just make sure you’re aware of social distancing still and stay at least two metres from other people.

TikTok Dances

Mix up your workout and why not get into Try TikTok dances? Our obsession with the latest social media must-have app has only exemplified during lockdown and we for one are not mad about it. With countless dances you can try your hand at, from the Renegade to the Stair Shuffle, this is a way more fun way to move your body.

With life as we know it being super uncertain right now and all the stress and anxiety surrounding us, a dose of yoga is well and truly needed. If you’re lucky enough to have some outdoor space, doing some yoga in your garden this weekend is a great way you can ease your mind, unwind and relax. With so many YouTube tutorials to guide you, there really is no excuse.

Step Ups

An easy go-to for any beginners out there, using the stairs or a low bench that is sturdy enough to take your weight, step up with one foot, bring the other up stand up on the step. Step backwards using the same leg. Repeat on the other side. And there you have it. Try to go as fast as you can to challenge yourself and do as many reps of this as you can take.

Weighted Lunges

Adding a bit of weight to your workouts can make all the difference. If you don’t have the right equipment, two tins of beans will do. Stand holding the weight in your right hand next to your shoulder, with your arm bent. With your left foot, step backward into a reverse lunge and lower your body until your back knee almost touches the floor. Push yourself back to the starting position and repeat.
